Mona* Needs Major Home Renovations (58786)

Mona’s father was a construction worker who died at the work site after a wooden plank fell on him. The three little children he left to his illiterate wife were devastated by his loss. Mona’s mother knew that providing for the basic needs of her children will be a challenge, yet she was determined to keep them all in school. They moved to a mudbrick house owned by the grandfather. While they didn’t pay rent, the house isn’t finished and needs a lot of work. Mona and her siblings can’t study after dusk since they have no electricity. They also fear that they might be attacked by thugs as the house has no roof or door.

Mona’s mother receives a pension of EGP 79 a month, which barely covers the basics. They can’t afford the needed renovations.

Mona needs a generous donor who would help her family get a roof for the house, install electric and water connections and a sturdy front door -- the equivalent of $1670 USD.

Sherry’s father sold all furniture and household equipment before he turned his back on Sherry and her mother. It was only a few days after he left that Sherry knew they can no longer stay in their apartment, it was sold as well.

Sherry and her mother managed to get a room in a three-story building. They were thankful for the roof over their head and didn’t mind sharing the bathroom on the ground floor with other tenants. Mina* Needs Help to Rebuild His Family's Home (59737)

Mina's father struggled against poverty and constantly failing health to provide for his family. In a heroic act, he mustered all his strength to go to Iraq and work in order to build Mina a home, but his kidneys failed before he got back to Egypt.

Mina's family was left in shambles, just like their half-built house. Without the income to support their schooling, Mina's sisters were left illiterate. Mina's older brother became the sole breadwinner for the family, and took up their father's quest to build their family a house. But Mina's older brother also died in a train accident.

Coptic Orphans has helped Mina learn how to read and get back on his feet so he can help his sisters and mother. Now, Mina wants to fulfill his father's dream of a home for the whole family.

He has already used a compensation awarded for the death of his older brother to demolish parts of the house that had rotted, unfinished. He also used the lumber in the house to start rebuilding it.

We want to partner with Mina to make his father's dream a reality, but Mina still needs a generous contributor to cover the outstanding construction cost, the equivalent of $1,250 USD.

A little while ago, their refrigerator broke. Without any income beyond what they scrape together for their late father’s debt payments and their basic needs, they cannot afford to get a new one. Yet without a refrigerator, they cannot keep food for very long in their hot and humid home.

Coptic Orphans has partnered with Girgis’ local church to get a working refrigerator for them so Girgis can get the nutrition he needs to succeed.

To fully cover the cost, we need a generous donor to provide the equivalent of $131 USD.

In January 2011, A crisis hit Egypt with the Alexandria bombing, and Coptic Orphans immediately replaced its urgent needs with appeals to meet the new need. Then came the Egypt revolution and events at Maspero.

Since the collapse of the infrastructure of the Mubarak regime, our participants have experienced break-ins and theft in their homes from criminals taking advantage of the lack of police presence, and with the military focused on larger matters.

To help fight this problem we put high priority in 2011 on safety.  We have been and will continue to be providing doors, locks, and windows to our children's homes who need them the most.

Mariam’s father used to work at a construction site, carrying large loads of sand and cement in rickety, old wheel barrel until he began suffering from cancer when he was no longer physically fit enough to do his job he was fired.

For one year Mariam’s family lived on practically nothing as the savings dwindled down being spent on his medical treatment.

Hannah along with her 5 brothers and sisters all share one room with their mother.  Their father, who suffered from mental and psychological issues, destroyed most of their home. His brother killed him during one such episode when he saw Hanna's father hurting her.  He left his wife and 6 children behind with nothing but a ruined home.

The children are also now suffering from psychological issues after witnessing their uncle murder their father in their own home.

Their home has no electrical supply, doors, or running water.  There were two extra rooms before their father destroyed them.

Their mother is illiterate and is shunned by her community and family because of her husband’s mental illness and her children’s psychological issues.

We want to restore some balance into their life by helping Hannah and her family fix the destroyed rooms, water, and electricity that serve as a constant reminder of their late father’s rage.
