Meetings with the Bishops
Onward and Upward for Coptic Orphans in Australia...
Was the message given to
Coptic Orphans Australia by His Eminence Bishop
Bakhomious when Coptic Orphans met him while he was
visiting Sydney.
His
Eminence Bishop Bakhomious took time out of his busy
schedule to
meet Coptic Orphans and express how impressed he was
with the work
Coptic Orphans do in his diocese
of Bahaira and Damanhour. "Coptic
Orphans are very organised
and effective in assisting the children" stated
His Eminence. Damanhour and
affiliated regions such as King Mariout and
Nubahera have had a long association with Coptic Orphans
as
His Eminence even went as
far as saying "the children that Coptic Orphans
serve now have as much oppurtunity as all the other
children in the area if not more."
It was a successful meeting
where His Eminence and Coptic Orphans shared
ideas and discussed future projects for the diocese
of Damanhour.
King Mariout was one of
the designated areas for this year's Serve to Learn.
Where three volunteers were guests of His Eminence
and they taught over
75 children English for three weeks. The three Coptic
youth came from Australia,
England and the U.S which made in interesting time
for the kids trying
to learn English, however it was thoroughly enjoyed
by all. "To see the
smiles on their faces and the fun they had, it was
definitely worth it and
I'll definitely do it again..highly recommended" said
one of the volunteers.
Nubahera is one of the
areas that runs the "Valuable
Girl Project" this program
joins young girls with older girls that act as mentors.
This encourages both girls
to continue on with their education and gives positive
role models to the younger girls who are in desperate
need
of female role models. We have a big problem here in
Egypt and that
is the role of the woman, we need to educate and empower
our women, and they have so
much potential! I'm sure if the girl gets the same
attention as
the boy they could be just as good if not better" said
one of the principals of a
High School in Egypt. This program is excellent and
we are
seeing results.
His Grace Bishop Daniel
During our meeting with His Grace Bishop
Daniel, he
was most impressed with the zeal of the youth, as he
noted that the youth are our future of the church.
Coptic Orphans looks forward to uniting the Lords children
here in Australia (Copts and Non-Copts alike), to assist
in the survival and success of His children in Egypt.
