Grant Making
Coptic Orphans has launched its
first grantmaking initiative in 2006. The purpose of the program is to
support Egypt-based community development associations as well as NGOs
active in one of these three main sectors: health education and awareness,
orphanage support, and education and literacy to underserved populations
-- including refugees, children with disabilities, and orphans. Coptic
Orphans will play a major role in supporting community development endeavors
that seek funding.
Our First Grant Recipient
Coptic Orphans piloted the grantmaking
initiative this last year (04-05), providing funding for the Association
of Upper Egypt for Education and
Development (AUEED). This nonprofit organization put the grant of $7,483
toward an elementary school in Sedfa, Assuit, supporting the education
of 105 at-risk children from grades K-3. The educational experiences
of these children were enriched through field trips, theatre productions,
and other special educational programs designed to develop the physical
and mental capacities of the children. This grant was renewed in the
amount of $9,046 to support 114 children in grades K-4 in 05-06.
Future
Impact
This grantmaking program makes it possible for Coptic Orphans
to respond to worthy funding requests from Egypt for projects that
are currently
outside of our program scope but not outside of our vision. It allows
us to provide donors with options for funding programs that are cause
worthy. Most importantly, it helps us to become better connected with
the needs of Egypt and better acquainted with the resources out there
to meet these needs.
Spotlight
Starting September, Coptic Orphans will feature
one grantee organization each month on its website to provide information
on the grant-awarded
organization and the work that it is accomplishing, thus keeping donors
informed on what their contributions are achieving in Egypt.
Support
this Initiative
Your donation will help Coptic Orphans expand its outreach
across Egypt providing impoverished and underprivileged populations
with services
that we have been unable to provide up until this point. It will further
the development of local community endeavors throughout Egypt that,
until now, have been restricted in their efforts due to limited funding
sources.
Your contribution will make such a difference in the lives of these
children as you partner with us and the grant recipients in providing
these young
people with the resources they need to be freed from the title of vulnerable,
and become enabled to make profound changes in the societies of which
they are part.
