October 27, 2007: Children Showcase Talents,
Outstanding Achievements in Not Alone - The highlight of the evening came
when a young man from Not Alone came onstage and played a piece
of music with the oud, an Egyptian stringed instrument. He was
hesitant and shy when he began, but the entire audience started
clapping along with the music to encourage him. Soon he was beaming.
The one hundred children who received awards and their families
walked out of a theater with confidence and the assurance that
success gets noticed.
September 7, 2007: Dreams
Come True for Children at Giza Concert - dreams came true for 30 children from Not Alone
when international pop singer Chantel Chamandy invited them onstage
during a landmark concert at the pyramids of Egypt.

28, 2007: New
Coptic Orphans Headquarters Opens Doors in Egypt -
More than 200 people gathered in Cairo , Egypt for the
grand opening of the new Coptic Orphans Egypt office.
The new office will increase the organizational capacity
of Coptic Orphans to open new doors of opportunity to many
more children in Egypt than have previously been able to
participate in Coptic Orphans programs.

4 - 24, 2007: Children
Choose Books, Receive Inspiration at Egypt Workshops - Over five hundred children participated in
workshops held in nine different locations throughout Egypt,
where they experienced the fun and joy of reading. In Cairo
, the children shared their stories with others through creative
skits. One child from Giza was so inspired by his new book,
he started to write his own story.

5, 2007: Coptic
Orphans Marches for the End of FGM - Coptic
Orphans staff and 20 Valuable Girl Project participants marched
to demand the end of female genital mutilation after the
recent death of a 12 year old girl who underwent the procedure.
February 12, 2008: “Creating
a Network of Volunteers in the Field” Coptic Orphans’ own
Shahira Mamdouh from the Cairo office shared our experience
recruiting, training and maintaining a network of over 250
volunteer Reps
throughout Egypt with the larger nonprofit community of Washington,
DC.
January 8, 2008: Coptic Orphans
and His Excellency Ambassador Nabil Fahmy of the Arab Republic
of Egypt presented a lecture and multimedia presentation by
Dr. Ebaid from Cairo on “The Holy Family in Egypt.”
November 24th, 2007: International Christmas
Worship Concert and Bazaar – Over a hundred
people gathered for an array of crafts, gifts, and food at
the bazaar,
and a concert
of Arabic-language Christmas music with The Rivers of Life
worship team from Toronto. Then, Coptic Orphans previewed
the new Not
Alone DVD and invited participants to change the life of
a child this Christmas. The evening ended with about forty-five
minutes
of heavenly Arabic praise and worship music.

Panel Discussion Forum: Female
Genital Mutilation/Cutting: Ending a Harmful
Practice in Egypt
and the World; Washington, DC – During this
compelling discussion with Coptic Orphans, Global Woman Magazine,
UNICEF, and Tostan,
we talked about an injustice that affects an estimated 130
million women in Egypt and around the world. We also saw how
the “social
convention theory for abandonment” virtually eliminated
the practice in Senegal and can end the practice in Egypt and
around the world in a single generation.

Event; 17th Street
Cafe,
DC -
Coptic Orphans and OneWorld.net, a DC-based organization dedicated
to
connecting individuals and international nonprofit organizations
to share information and build a better world, co-hosted a
networking event for individuals and nonprofits. Nermien Riad,
Hanan Baky,
Tamara Martin, and Nathan Hollenbeck shared the message about
vulnerable children in Egypt one-on-one and in an informal
presentation with the others present and met many of similar
vision.

Orphans at Arabic Christian Conference in Lancaster,
PA - Dina
Daniel spoke about the plight of children in Egypt over
a sea of audience members wearing Coptic Orphans T-shirts.
April 28,
2007: "An International
Passport to Change" Annual Coptic Orphans Gala - Thanks
to the generousity of the wonderful attendees, the evening
raised over $55,000. The event took place in the illustrious
William F. Bolger Center in Potomac, MD, and featured a silent & live
auction, VIP reception, awards ceremony, and dinner. Egyptian
celebrity Yousra accepted the Coptic Orphans 2007 Leading
by Example Award, saying "Of the over fifty awards that
I have received, this one is the most touching". Also
honored were the Serve to Learn Volunteer alumni for their
dedication

the World to Egypt : Volunteerism:
Approaches, Global Impact and Opportunities - Nathan
Hollenbeck talked about getting the most out of international
volunteer experiences, and previewed the 2007 Serve to
Learn opportunity at George Washington University.

had a table promoting Serve
to Learn at the Aaron Shust Concert being held by the Mission
Life Center in Fairfax, VA.
March 1st, 2008: Coptic Orphans Holds
First Family Day at the Cabane à sucre in Quebec -
A special thank you from Manal and Kevin to every
one who came out to be part of this event. It wasn’t
a fundraiser, but a way for the Coptic Orphans family to
share fellowship
and celebrate our families together. A snow storm hit right
on the morning of the event, but despite long drives through
daunting storms and heavy snow, we sold out on tickets and
even more people showed up to push attendance to 118. An extra
thank-you to Famille Constantin, who donated two gift baskets
for our raffle at the event. We would also like to than the
staff for the delicious meal and the exquisitely friendly
customer service. Enjoy

October 14th, 2007: Annual Thanksgiving
Dinner – It
was a time of fellowship and sharing as friends of Coptic
Orphans Canada gathered to break bread and hear the latest
from the
field in Egypt. Those present gathered several thousand dollars
for the children in Egypt.
Sept 6, 2007: Maxi
Grocery Fundraising Event; Pointe Claire, Quebec - On
the weekend of September 6th, fifty dedicated volunteers
raised thousands of dollars
for the children in Egypt by bagging
groceries and meeting new people. Congratulations to all
of our wonderful volunteers.
They gave up what was probably the last hot and sunny weekend
of the summer and many children will be uplifted because
of their
sacrifice.
