OOn September 7th, dreams came true for 30 children
from Not Alone when international pop singer Chantel Chamandy invited
them onstage during a landmark concert at the pyramids of Egypt.. “I
never thought that I would have the confidence to stand in front
of such a huge audience,” said one girl.
Chamandy, who is Egyptian-born
but lives in Canada, wanted to get children participating in Coptic
Orphans involved with this concert
after hearing about the organization. In addition to inviting thirty
children onstage with her as she sang her songs “pray” and “faith,” she
also gave Coptic Orphans 500 tickets for disadvantaged children
and their families to attend.
Several thousand people attended the
concert. Chantel performed
with the Cairo Symphonic Orchestra in front of the great pyramids
of Giza, a site that the Egyptian government has granted to only
a handful of other performers.
During rehearsal Chantel tickled
and hugged the children at every opportunity. The entire event
made the children feel important and
special, and gave the hundreds of other Not Alone children who
attended the concert a memory they will not soon forget.
The concert
honored the children in Not Alone who stretch forward to reach
their potential despite their circumstances, and show them
that no dream is too big. To help Coptic Orphans make dreams come
true for more children, consider sponsoring a child.
According to
Chantel’s website, the concert will be available
to be aired by PBS beginning March 2008.
