Coptic Orphans Awarded Honorable Mention.
We are delighted to announce
that Coptic Orphans has been awarded an honorable
mention in the 2005 Washington Post Award for Excellence
in Nonprofit Management. With the honorable mention
comes a grant for $2,500 to be used for organizational
capacity building in our Washington DC office.
Coptic Orphans began the
rigorous application process in December 2004. The
process culminated in being chosen as one of five
finalists out of 34 applicants, a site visit by the
selection committee and a presentation to 300 members
of the nonprofit community of Washington DC at the
awards ceremony. Also present to congratulate Coptic
Orphans was Consul Mahmoud Zayed of the Egyptian
Embassy.
The Center for Nonprofit
Advancement, which oversees this award, chose Coptic
Orphans because of its organizational teamwork, the
annual rotation of the board chair, outreach to the
board and volunteers to build organizational skills,
the programs allowing donors to see Coptic Orphans
in action at the service site in Egypt, and Coptic
Orphans' ability to build strong partnerships.
Outstanding nonprofit
management is essential to delivering excellent services
to the children and this award recognizes and allows
us to maintain that excellence.
