A Gift of Warmth in Sudan
A
Few years ago, some Canadian Copts from Sudan asked us to partner
with them to ensure that their homeland in Sudan gains the same
access
to basic rights as Egypt. We started working in Sudan with
the Coptic Orthodox Church, sending small grants to the two Coptic
bishops in
Sudan with the support of our donors who were passionate about
the region.
In
Southern Sudan, Coptic Orphans provided the funds for 300
blankets and 70 boxes of nutritious food. “We’ve brought joy to the orphans,
the poor, and those in need,” bishop Elias of Southern
Sudan said about the contribution.
Many
of the children’s families are refugees from Nubia and
Ethiopia, and faced with extreme poverty. The children
must often work in
the fields
to help support their families, making education difficult.
One of our biggest priorities in the coming years in Sudan
is the education
of these children.
