Donor Relations Manager, Fairfax, VA — USA

The Donor Relations Manager is one of the first and most important points of contact for Coptic Orphans' stakeholders. In that role, s/he must communicate the organization's mission and work in an engaging, passionate, and professional manner. S/he will focus on implementing and delegating the initiatives of the Donor Relations Director. By managing various major events at home and abroad, as well as other fundraising initiatives, he/she will cultivate long-term relationships with donors. S/he will network with donors to advance the work of Coptic Orphans and promote the success of special projects.  S/he will communicate passion for the work of Coptic Orphans to stakeholders at speaking engagements, outreach events, and in other public settings.  This will mean a substantial amount of travel, both nationally and internationally.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Cultivate and network with potential donors.

  2. Work closely with clergy and the Church hierarchy to gain access to congregations.

  3. Oversee Donor Relations Dept. communication with sponsors and donors.

  4. Manage and promote the sponsorship program so that relevant goals are achieved.

  5. Manage existing donor relationships.

  6. Develop new and creative ideas for taking Coptic Orphans' customer service to a new level. 

  7. Promote Coptic Orphans programs, such as the Serve to Learn volunteer initiative, through presentations and among donors by answering potential volunteers' questions and engaging returning volunteers.

  8. Attend workshops and related events to promote the organization's work.

  9. Perform other tasks as necessary. 


Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide training, support, and oversight to Donor Relations Associates as directed by Director of Donor Relations. 


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  1. BA with a total of 7 years of work experience, including supervisory experience.

  2. Excellent spoken/written English and Arabic. 

  3. Excellent presentation and communications skills.

  4. Detail-oriented and able to strategically implement processes.

  5. Some fundraising or marketing experience.

  6. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, along with demonstrated ability to follow up on assignments and coordinate multiple tasks efficiently.

  7. Experience with database or contact management software such as Raiser’s Edge a plus.

  8. Persuasive, polished, and articulate communicator.

  9. Must be comfortable talking on the phone with stakeholders.


Fiscal Responsibilities:

Develop, manage, monitor, and report on event budgets.

Extent of Public Contact:

The Donor Relations Manager is often the first and primary point of contact for donors. S/he speaks on behalf of Coptic Orphans with partners, stakeholders, and interested parties, including schools, churches, and non-governmental organizations. Thus, s/he must fully understand the organization's work.
S/he must understand the cultures of all the different areas where Coptic Orphans works, and be able to connect with people from many different walks of life.

Working Conditions and Environment:
S/he must be available for travel throughout the U.S. and Canada, at times with little or no notice, including extensive international travel.
